Frequently Asked Questions

  • Just give us a call, txt or send us a message — Instagram, Facebook, Google Maps or through the website all work. Let us know what you have in mind and we'll take it from there. We're easy to get in touch with and usually respond quickly.

  • Pretty fast. In most cases we can get you in same day or next day — especially for walk-in engraving on items you bring to us. Larger or more complex custom orders may take a little longer but we'll always give you a clear timeline upfront.

  • Most engravings start at $15 for a single item. Pricing scales when ordering multiples, and larger or more complex designs will be quoted accordingly. We'll always give you a clear price before we start anything.

  • We can do small engravings on tumblers and similar items, but we don't currently offer full wrap engraving as we don't have a rotary attachment. However — we will soon be offering full wrap UV printing on tumblers and cylindrical items, which actually produces a full colour result. Stay tuned!

  • We can, but glass engraving can be hit or miss depending on the type and quality of the glass. Results are not always guaranteed and we'll let you know honestly before we attempt it. Some glass engraves beautifully — others not so much.

  • Engraving works best on flat, stable surfaces. Curved, uneven, or irregular surfaces can affect the quality of the result. If you're not sure whether your item is a good candidate, just ask us — we're happy to take a look before committing.

  • Yes — we work with a Trotec Speedy 300, which has a maximum engraving area of 28.7" x 17.3" (730mm x 440mm) and a maximum material height of 8.3" (210mm without the base plate). If your item is larger than these dimensions we unfortunately can't accommodate it, but feel free to ask and we'll let you know.

  • Wood, metal, steel, glass, leather, acrylic, granite, coated metals, and more. If you're unsure about your specific material, just reach out — we've engraved on a lot of unusual things over the years and can usually give you a straight answer.

  • Absolutely. We offer free design consultation with every order. If you have a logo, photo, or idea, bring it to us and we'll work with you to make it happen. If you have nothing but a rough idea, that works too.

Our Story

In 2019, we took a leap of faith.

We bought a laser engraver — part impulse, part instinct. Both of us come from creative backgrounds, so we knew we could have fun with it. What we didn't know yet was whether we could build something real out of it.

Turns out, we could.

The Cruel Hawk is a family operation run by two people who genuinely love making things. The name is even a nod to that — a mashup of our last names, Kruller and Hauck. Cruel. Hawk. It stuck.

What started as a leap of faith has grown into a full laser engraving and UV printing studio serving customers across Hamilton and beyond — everything from handmade LED signs to engraving the flask someone brought in on their lunch break.

We didn't cut corners on equipment either — we run an 80W Trotec CO2 laser, one of the most precise engraving machines in the world, capable of detail finer than a human hair.
